    Sen. Bunning (KY) Retires

    Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

BunningFor those of you Kentuckian’s out there like me, here’s a little insider political news.  Republican Senator Jim Bunning from Kentucky announced yesterday he will not seek reelection in the 2010 elections. Senator Bunning had maintained for months that he was planning to run for his third term despite speculation that he would drop out of the Senate race because of his inability to fundraise, low poll numbers and lack of support from top state party officials.

Secretary of State Trey Grayson, a Republican, has launched an exploratory committee for the seat. Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo and Attorney General Jack Conway have announced they will run for the Senate seat on the Democratic side.

You need to be 30 years old to run for Senate – who’s up for it?
