Meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon and Will Smith walk us through the evolution of hip hop dancing; new godmother, Kate Middleton, and Prince George attend a christening; and the U.S.A. wins the first ever gold medal in ice dancing.

    Last night, Jimmy Fallon transitioned from his hit show “Late Night” to NBC’s “The Tonight Show” and made a splash with viewers. Mr. Fallon proved once again that he’s a natural host and he excited the audience with his witty humor on topics like Sochi & hip hop. The “Tonight Show” made its first return to New York City in almost 40 years and that was the most exciting part of the evening. In the theme of celebration, Mr. Fallon introduced his parents to viewers and ended the show with a performance by U2.

    This past Friday, Riverside county in California held its National Date Festival, an annual tribute to a local industry that began in the Middle East. Riverside County has held the festival intermittently since 1921 and since the 1940s the county has decided to honor the history of the date and the culture of its Arabian origin. Unfortunately the festival sparked backlash from Coachella Valley High School’s Arab mascot. Although the mascot has been in existence since the 1930s, the American-Arab Anti Discrimination Committee has deemed the mascot a “gross stereotype” and the high school is currently seeking other mascot options as a result of the Committee’s petition.

    For the first time ever in Saudi history, a female journalist, Somayya Jabarti, was named editor-in-chief of a national newspaper. When reporters asked about her views on this historic appointment, Jabarti said, “There’s a crack that has been made in the glass ceiling. And I’m hoping it will be made into a door”. She continued by saying, “Being the first Saudi woman [editor-in-chief] is going to be double the responsibility … One’s actions will reflect upon my fellow Saudi women.”

    The Apothecary Shoppe of Tulsa, according to court documents, will not provide drugs for use in the execution of Michael Taylor that is scheduled for this month. Michael Taylor currently sits on death row for the brutal rape, murder, and kidnapping of a southeast Kansas girl. In this court case, Taylor argued that in several recent executions in which the compounded pentobarbital was used, showed it would likely cause him “severe, unnecessary, lingering, and ultimately inhumane pain.”

    Late last evening, Venezuelan Security Forces raided the headquarters of an opposition party accused of being the driving force behind recent violent protests. While raiding the headquarters, the Venezuelan national government also expelled three U.S. diplomats on charges of conspiring with demonstrators. The U.S. State Department has called the charges against the U.S. diplomats, false and baseless.

    President Obama intends to discuss raising the minimum wage for some Federal workers in his State of the Union Address tonight; John W. Warner surprises many by endorsing his Democratic successor Mark Warner; and peace talks in the Middle East have led to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas agreeing to a three year transition period. Meanwhile, legendary folk singer Pete Seeger passed away today and ‘How I Met Your Mother’ will premiere its 200th episode tonight!

    In tonight’s State of the Union Address, President Obama plans to announce his intention of using an executive order to raise the minimum wage for some federal contractors to $10.10 an hour. The White House released a statement saying,“The President is using his executive authority to lead by example, and will continue to work with Congress to finish the job for all Americans by passing the (congressional) bill.” The State of the Union Address will air tonight at 9PM EST.

    Former Republican Senator John Warner has earned a reputation as a party maverick for bucking conservatives who won control of the GOP during his 30 year tenure in the US Senate. The former senator praised Democrat Mark Warner in his interview with the Associated Press as being a politician who understands the importance of bipartisan solutions. Mark Warner is grateful for his former opponent’s support and lauded John Warner as “The Gold Standard of Virginia”.

    A student at a local Denver high school set himself on fire in the school cafeteria. The unnamed 16 year-old student remains in critical condition as family, friends, school faculty, and police attempt to figure out what led the student to set himself on fire. Yesterday was the latest incident to affect the Denver area school community in recent weeks.

    Bill to Offer an Option to Give Vouchers, http://rtvote.com/1mRTtzT
    Senator Lamar Alexander, who served as Secretary of Education under President George H.W. Bush, is planning to introduce a bill sometime today that would give federal money to the parents of 11 million children from low income families to spend on any type of schooling, as long as it is an accredited institution. Under this legislation, states would be given the option to opt in to the voucher program. About a third of states have already taken steps to redefine public education with a network of vouchers and scholarships. The rollout of Senator Alexander’s bill is seen as being a rallying point for Republicans as they approach mid-term election season.

    President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority said in an interview that he can accept an Israeli military presence in the West Bank for three years as part of a peace deal. Mr. Mahmoud said,“We are willing to allow a third party to take Israel’s place during and after a withdrawal in order to soothe our concerns and Israel’s.”

    According to a leading US Senator, the US government has secretly treated Egypt’s military takeover as a coup, without publicly announcing it as such. With this private ruling, the Obama administration decided to temporarily suspend most military aid to the country. This action comes weeks after conflict began. The US government has considered cutting aid as a last straw in an effort to retain ties with one of few allies in the Middle East.

    The Qatar based network will launch an American division Tuesday, which will reach 50% of all US cable TV subscribers.     A series of texts could be a major piece of evidence in the Hernandez murder case. Just minutes before Odin Lloyd was shot to death, he texted his sister “Did you see who I was with?” to which she asked “Who?” and he replied “NFL. Just so you know.” At 3:23 a.m. Lloyd was shot to death in an execution-style shooting by New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez. Apparently Lloyd was talking to people in a nightclub that Hernandez did not like, and Hernandez reacted by shooting him to death. Hernandez was charged Wednesday with murder and could potentially land himself in prison for life.

    U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry is visiting the Middle East for the fifth time to hold peace talks with Jordan’s King Abdullah, Palestine’s President Mahmoud Abbas, and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Kerry arrived Wednesday in Amman, the same day Israel officially approved 69 new housing units in a Jewish settlement in East Jerusalem.

    President Obama said he will not be “scrambling jets” to bring Edward Snowden back to the U.S. He said he should not have to speak personally to the leaders of Russia and China about finding the 29-year-old hacker. Snowden is thought to be hiding in a Moscow airport awaiting a ruling on his request for asylum from Ecuador.

    As President Obama heads to Senegal today on a trip to highlight achievements in democracy, his trip is expected to be overshadowed by the fate of Nelson Mandela. Mandela, who remains in critical condition, has been battling his health since contracting a lung infection three weeks ago. President Obama plans to travel to South Africa on Friday as part of his three-nation visit.

    Governor Rick Perry announced today that a Special Session of the Texas Legislature would be held Monday, July 1 at 2 p.m. Among the important issues at hand to discuss are: legislation regarding the regulation of abortion, legislation regarding transportation funding for infrastructure projects, and legislation regarding a mandatory sentence of life with parole for a capital felony committed by a 17-year-old offender.

    Police in Ohio are investigating the deaths of two brothers, 9 and 12 years old, found dead in their grandparents’ home. The boys were found shot to death in an upstairs bedroom of their grandparents’ home on Wednesday. It is still unclear whether or not there was anyone home at the time of the murders.

    There is still more work to be done regarding Proposition 8. Andy Pugno of the Proposition 8 Legal Defense Fund said Wednesday that “We remain committed to the continued enforcement of Proposition 8 until there is a statewide order saying otherwise.” Instead of ruling directly on the constitutional right to marry, the Supreme Court ruled narrowly, dismissing the case of Hollingsworth v. Perry. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals said Proposition 8 supporters have 25 days to ask the Supreme Court to rehear the case.
