    “Resist further extraordinary intervention in the U.S. economy,” Republican leaders warned Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke in a letter sent Monday. House Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl all object to a recent Fed policy that flushed $600 billion into the economy. Republicans say they do not believe that pumping more money into the economy is the way to create jobs or fix our broken economy.

    On Tuesday, gunmen dumped 35 bodies under an overpass near a tourist shopping center in Mexico. The dead bore signs of torture according to the prosecutor for the state of Veracruz. Officials say the victims had criminal records for involvement in organized-crime activities, including kidnappings, extortion, drug sales and murder.

    The Obama administration is building new drone bases near Africa to have a better counter-terrorism program against groups in Yemen and Somalia. The CIA is also building a secret airstrip in the Arabian peninsula. One site is in Ethiopia where the U.S. can better fight al-Shabab and in Seychelles, where unmanned “hunter-killer” drones can patrol Somalia.

The 42 year old man has had the date pushed back three different times and is now out of appeals. Davis made a last attempt by asking for a polygraph to prove his innocence, but his request was denied.

The rapper has been tweeting up a storm about Davis’ execution saying things like “Time to be seen!!!!!” and “We don’t need a trending topic, we need boots on the ground.” Also, Diddy asked his Twitter followers to call U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.

    Nextag, Yelp, and Expedia are accusing Google of hiding search results for them. The companies claim they are targets because they have non-Google affiliated search engines on their sites. At today’s Senate antitrust hearing, the companies will begin their testimony. Google has denied the claims.

    The new CEO of Apple is unveiling the iPhone 5 on October 4th. This will be Tim Cook’s first unveiling since Steve Jobs left the CEO post. It is unclear when the phone will be available for purchase after the unveiling.

    Twitter will launch political advertising this week. The political ads are going to launch with 5 presidential campaigns. Twitter’s President of Global Revenue, Alex Bain, will not reveal which candidates will be using the new feature.

    Two years ago, three hikers were arrested after accidentally crossing Iran’s boarder. Iran charged them with espionage and illegal entry into the country. A year ago, one prisoner was released for medical reasons. Iranian authorities will release the two other hikers if they each post $500,000 bail.

    With rockets and automatic weapons, the Taliban attacked the U.S. Embassy and NATO in Afghanistan. While hiding in a building under construction, insurgents sought to cause as many causalities as possible in the area, which is dense with diplomats.

    At last night’s Tea Party debate, Rick Perry was the focal point of attacks from the other GOP candidates. Ron Paul claimed that his taxes had doubled since Perry had become governor of Texas, while Huntsman called Perry’s immigration policies “treasonous.” Bachmann also called Perry out for mandating HPV vaccines for all young girls in Texas, claiming that he enacted the law because one of his donors owns the vaccine’s medical company.

Also, two studies show that certain pills can prevent H.I.V. infection, Spotify is coming to the U.S., and Amazon is creating an iPad competitor.

    The US women’s soccer team played a challenging nail-biter against France yesterday.  In the end, Abby Wambach and goalie, Hope Solo pulled through to win the game. The Americans will play Japan in the World Cup final on Sunday.

A bipartisan chorus of lawmakers is calling for a federal investigation into Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., amid reports that journalists employed by Murdoch’s empire may have hacked the phones of 9/11 victims. Homeland Security Chairman Peter King, R-N.Y., sent a letter Wednesday to FBI Director Robert Mueller calling for an investigation. “It is my duty to discern every fact behind these allegations,” wrote King, noting that he lost 150 constituents in the attacks. Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y., echoed King’s call for an investigation as well as congressional hearings: “These latest allegations demand a swift and immediate inquiry by the appropriate agencies into whether any U.S. laws were broken.”

Republicans have accused the President of storming out of the talks, while the White House says the meeting had simply ended.

    In what was a largely party-line vote, the House of Representatives voted 239-184 to strip the EPA of its authority to regulate state water quality. If the measure were to somehow make it through the Democratic majority in the Senate, then President Obama would veto it.

    Leiby Kletzky, an 8-year-old boy in Brooklyn, was murdered and dismembered while walking home from summer camp. The man, a stranger whom Kletzky had asked for directions, had no excuse for why he killed the boy. The police found Kletzky’s severed feet in the freezer and the rest of his body in a trash bin two miles away.

    Could the United States really default on its loans? With debt ceiling negotiations going poorly, Moody’s Investors Service warns that the country could lose its Aaa debt rating. The rating allows the US to have more credit to borrow money. The warning  hashad a ripple effect today, weakening both the dollar and treasuries.

    Scientists report that modern antiretroviral drugs work to not only treat HIV/AIDS, but prevent it as well. Two new studies show that taking a daily pill in combination with certain AIDS drugs can keep uninfected people from catching the virus. “This is an extremely exciting day for H.I.V. prevention,” said Dr. Kevin Fenton, director of AIDS prevention at the CDC.

    Spotify, the music service that lets users stream any song they want in its entirety at no cost, is coming to America. Started in Sweden as something of an experiment to combat piracy with convenience, the iTunes and Pandora competitor is hugely popular in Europe.     A woman, who may have suffered a small stroke after receiving anesthesia at a routine dentist appointment, has developed the incredibly rare “Foreign Accent Syndrome.” The syndrome is a neurological disorder that causes people to involuntarily speak with an accent. The woman likes her new accent, which she says is sort of British, Irish, and Eastern European. Another reported case notes a British woman who developed a Chinese accent after a migraine.

    The raid of Osama bin Laden’s compound continues to make news as recovered information proves that he was more than just the face of Al Qaeda and was playing an active role in planning future attacks. Pakistani officials have come forward with their disapproval about the mission, warning the US about further raids. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Clinton has said that the US will continue to take action in Libya until Gadhafi stops the strikes against the rebels, more people now believe that Obama was in fact born in the US, and employment rates go up after an all time low last month.

    Its not all so serious today, and the entertainment industry is abuzz, with MTVs CEO resigning, Lady Gaga debuting the new “Judas” music video and George Clooney turning 50!

    The unemployment rate rose to 9 percent from 8.8. percent last month, despite the addition of thousands of jobs. The new jobs can ba attributed to the private sector, which “accounted for all of the job gains last month, with payrolls rising 268,000, the largest rise since February 2006.”

    Google has added a feature to Google Maps called Business Photo, where businesses who allow Google to photograph the inside of their building will be able to post it on Google Maps. Places like restaurants and store openings could benefit from the ability to show their interior.

    Despite the small number of people who have declared their candidacy, Fox hosted the first GOP debate last night. The two main points of attack on Obama were foreign policy, including questioning why the photos of bin Laden had not been released, as well as the state of the economy.

McGrath tried to put a stop to the show, but was unsuccessful.
