Big Vote on Green Jobs, Climate, and Energy Bill Tomorrow

    Thursday, June 25th, 2009

This is it: tomorrow Congress will vote on the American Clean Energy and Security Act, a bill we have been working to strengthen for the past several months. We can’t let up now, and we need to make sure our voices are heard loud and clear in this debate.

    Two things you can do:

    1. Call your member of Congress! Seriously. It matters. Here’s where you can look up the and get their phone number: https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

    2. If you are in D.C., tomorrow (Friday) there is a rally outside of the Capitol to demand a strong climate bill. Our friends at Energy Action Coalition are organizing the event. They’ll have giant green hard hats and wind turbines, and we’ll rally and march to make sure we are visible. At 1:00 PM, we’ll converge at the South East corner of the Capitol grounds across from the Cannon House Office Building (1st St. and Independence Ave NE, near Capitol South Metro Stop).

Want to do more? Starting at 2:00 PM, join with Energy Action Coalition to flood the House Office Buildings and the chambers in which Congress will vote. It’s important that the members see us and hear our message before they go to vote.

UPDATE: The bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives 219-212.  You can see who voted how here: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2009/roll477.xml.

Yesterday, we started asking you to make your voice heard on the big issues: clean energy and green jobs; health care; and higher education. First up: tell President Obama to stand strong on the clean energy and green jobs legislation.

Can you send an email to President Obama? Just click here to make it happen. Thousands have already sent a note . . . make sure he hears from you!
