72 Hours for Clean American Power

    Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Can we agree on two things? One: we’ve got a bad economy. And two: our planet is in peril with rising sea levels, crazy storms, melting ice caps, famine, disease, etc.

Would you be interested in something that puts people to work building a new green economy and saves the environment? I thought you might. Who doesn’t love a win-win?!

Since Tuesday, dozens of groups have been calling the Senate to demand they pass comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation as part of the 72 Hours for Clean American Power national call-in campaign. Can you make a call?

Young people have been a huge part of this – from students setting up tables to generate calls on campuses all over the country to organizing huge online pushes. Make your voice heard by heading on over to one of the many online hubs for the call-in campaign: http://consequence09.org/72Hours/. Easy and important. What more do you need?

    Clean Energy Now! Bus Tour

    Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Our friends at Hip Hop Caucus working with the Alliance for Climate Protection’s Repower America Campaign (with the support of a whole bunch of other organizations, including yours truly) are launching a Clean Energy Now! Bus Tour around the US. There are two issues that are imperative that we fix – the catastrophic challenges of climate change and the fact that the economy is screwed. Luckily, we have a solution for both – a clean energy economy not only puts people to work building green technology but then has the added benefit of saving the environment. A win-win!

The tour kicks off in New Orleans and rolls through Indianapolis, Arkansas, Missouri, and Washington, DC for a variety of events including community rallies, roundtables on college campuses, tours of clean energy job sites and musical events.

If you are in New Orleans TODAY, go check it out:

    Crush Global Warming

    Monday, November 9th, 2009

Care about the environment and global warming? Our friends at the Alliance for Climate Education (ACE) just launched a new video called ‘Crush Global Warming’ that I have to say is pretty great. It allows you to put in your friends names to personalize a music video just for them about this issue as well as allow you to sign the Declaration of Independence from Fossil Fuels. A declaration written by 15-year-old ACE youth leader Alec Loorz to tell leaders that youth want action on climate change now.

    Check it out here: http://www.acespace.org/crush

This issue is not going away and we need a strong youth voice to make sure those in Congress know that the time is now for action.

Try it now, share it with your friends and declare your energy independence!

    Call on the Environment

    Friday, October 23rd, 2009

The Consequence Campaign (which Rock the Vote is a part of) is hosting a national conference call with Senator John Kerry (D-MA) who is the lead sponsor on the ‘Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act’ – the climate change legislation going through Congress. This is an opportunity to hear about the bill, what’s going on, ask questions.

The call will be on Tuesday, October 27, at 9:00 PM EST/6:00 PM PST. Join us by RSVPing here.

When you sign up, remember to take a moment to add your question for the Senator. On Monday, you can vote for the best question and the top vote getters will ask their question on the call.

    Don’t forget to RSVP.
