Electionland: WA-08 Debate, Senate Responses, and More!

    Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Over on Electionland, our interactive election center, candidates for the 8th Congressional District in Washington state are answering questions from constituents on Friday. We’re taking questions now. If you’re in the neighborhood, pop over and check it out.

The 8th District is one of the most competitive districts in the country. To the east and south of Seattle, it is one of the few places where a Democratic challenger (Suzan Delbene) could unseat a Republican incumbent (Dave Reichert). The district voted for John Kerry and Barack Obama while sending Republican Dave Reichert to Congress.

Beyond Washington’s 8th District, we have been posting the answers we got from U.S. Senate candidates to questions from young voters. Check out California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, and more.

Electionland is also the place to get answers to some pretty important questions around voting. Questions like: When are the polls open? What do I bring with me? What’s on my ballot? Go to Electionland, pick your state, and get your questions answered.

    Michigan State Pledges

    Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Rock the Vote didn’t send me on the road just because Passion Pit, Black Joe Lewis, and K-Flay put on a great show or because living on a tour bus is pretty sweet. They sent me out to talk to you. To find out why this election matters to you and to help you show the world that young voters are not going to stay away from the polls in 2010. Rock the Vote sent me on the road to get you to Pledge to Vote Fearlessly. And you haven’t disappointed yet.

We’ve visited 4 campuses so far and more than 1200 of you have pledged to vote! From UNH to Penn State to Temple and MSU, students are telling everyone that young voters are here, they’re here to stay, and they’re going to Vote Fearlessly How about you?  We’re hitting 9 more campuses – come out, talk to us, and pledge to vote.  If you can’t make the show, click here to take the pledge.

    Michigan State Recap:

MSU is huge.  Almost as big as the Spartans’ response to the Pledge to Vote campaign during the show.  Packed into a tiny lobby in the “Aud”, Rock the Vote volunteers worked the crowd for voter pledges.  And the Spartans brought it.  Despite the fact that lobby was wall to wall, more than 250 students took the pledge.  They used each others backs to sign the pledges, leaned against walls, shared clipboards, and got it done.  The students that I spoke with knew what they were going to do – they knew there polling place, already had their absentee ballots (last day to apply for an absentee ballot in Michigan is 2pm the Saturday before the election), and were excited to Vote Fearlessly on November 2.  These students, and all of the students I’ve spoken to, knew how important young voters are and they are committed to making their voice heard and voting on November 2nd.

It’s been an awesome tour so far.  We’re stopping in Champaign tomorrow at the University of Illinois.  The ball is in your court – Illini, bring it.
