    Declare Your Energy Independence

We have a feeling that you don’t need a reminder that today is Earth Day.

If you are like us, you have grown up with yearly celebrations in your schools and communities. Over the years, you have probably cleaned up parks and

streams, written letters to Congress about the environment, planted trees, and maybe even committed yourself to a greener lifestyle. In fact, today is the 40th time we have celebrated Earth Day – in ways big and small – across the planet.

But this Earth Day could be different than all the rest. It is the first time we have marked Earth Day with a real chance of passing comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation. We expect a bipartisan bill to be introduced in the U.S. Senate next week. After years of stalling and false starts, this could be it. It is a big deal.

So today we hope you’ll join us in declaring your energy independence and signing the petition demanding action on climate legislation.
Let’s be honest: despite incredible progress on environmental protection, America still has a failing energy policy that continues to reward polluters, undermines the health of the American people, threatens our national and economic security and keeps us dependent on energy sources from overseas. No more delays or obstruction. We need to get this done.
Please read the declaration here and sign today. Together with our friends — community groups, environmentalists, veterans, youth, businesses, people of faith, conservationists, and more — we will deliver the message that the time is now.
    Happy Earth Day!

P.S. Looking for ways to get involved on Earth Day? Click here to find service events in your area, send us photos of how you are spending Earth Day to earth@mozes.com, or show your support for the environment by using your profile picture to spread the message of Earth Day.

We don’t need a reminder. Perhaps the president does.

“On a day when many Americans will be reflecting upon how they can reduce their impact on the environment, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will board separate jets in Washington on Earth Day morning to fly 250 miles up the east coast to New York, where they will land at separate airports to attend separate events within a few miles of each other.

The parallel visits of Air Force One (a 747/VC-25 aircraft) and Air Force Two (a 757/C-32A aircraft) will delay dozens, if not hundreds of commercial flights at Kennedy and LaGuardia and other nearby airports as no-fly zones are implemented. Jets will be forced to circle and burn more fuel as they wait for the VIPs to come and go. Their security contingents consisting of dozens of cars, SUVs and helicopters will burn even more. Throw in thousands of commuters’ cars and delivery trucks sitting idle in traffic as law enforcement closes large swaths of the city and you have yourself a very Earth-unfriendly day.”

If you want America to no longer rely on foreign sources of energy then support drilling our own oil. If you want clean reliable energy, like many European counties enjoy, then support the reopening of Yucca Mountain and the investment in hundreds of new Nuclear Power Plants. Wind turbines, solor panels and CFLs are red herrings, and climate legislation is nothing more than a rouse to grant government more regulatory authority and new tax streams for their pet projects.

We have plentry of energy here politicians won’t let us use. Petition that.

Its our obligation to protect our planet for future generations. Its an essential way we respect life. I think this is pretty cool add as well.

Here’s an idea to help get off of importing most of our oil, lets drill for our own offshore or in Alaska.

Since when does the Government have the job and the right to tell people how to live in their own homes, which is exactly what climate legislation would do. Why will people have to buy more “efficient and environmentaly friendly” lightbulbs in 2012 that are also filled with mercury with 9 miles of cleanup procedures for a broken bulb?
