Virtual Townhall at 6:00 p.m. on Citizen-Funded Elections

    Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Our friends at Public Campaign are hosting a virtual town hall tonight at 6:00 p.m. on the east coast to talk about the Fair Elections Now Act. The lead sponsor of the bill, Rep. John Larson of Connecticut, will talk about the legislation and answer your questions. Short version: the bill allows for citizen-funded elections, providing public money to match contributions under $100 with a 4-to-1 match. Here’s the skinny on the event from Public Campaign:

Momentum for the Fair Elections Now Act (H.R. 1826) is growing – due to you. Lead House sponsor, Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.), wanted to speak to you directly to thank you, answer your questions, and to encourage you to continue to act to advance Fair Elections. We have set up a website for you to join the virtual town hall at http://townhall.fairelectionsnow.org. Log on Thursday, February 25 at 6:00 P.M. EST.

Use this link THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 25 at 6:00 P.M. EST http://townhall.fairelectionsnow.org to attend the town hall and submit your questions online.

    Health Summit Smack Down

    Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

On Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C., the White House is hosting the bipartisan health care summit with Congressional leaders from both parties. It is going to be six hours of wonkery, posturing, negotiating, speechifying, and reforming . . . all in the name of making America a better place for you and me (maybe). The summit will be streamed on WhiteHouse.gov – and with chat potential at http://apps.facebook.com/whitehouselive/ – and broadcast on C-SPAN 3. Both parties will stream the event live on their websites and expect a lot of cable news coverage, too.

Ezra Klein of the Washington Post, who has been following health care reform as closely as anyone (and who is young and very smart, by the way) – just posted his “viewer’s guide” to the summit here.

Or you can just watch this highly thoughtful preview to get you fired up:

Tell us: what do you want to see come out of this summit?

    Clean Energy Now! Bus Tour

    Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Our friends at Hip Hop Caucus working with the Alliance for Climate Protection’s Repower America Campaign (with the support of a whole bunch of other organizations, including yours truly) are launching a Clean Energy Now! Bus Tour around the US. There are two issues that are imperative that we fix – the catastrophic challenges of climate change and the fact that the economy is screwed. Luckily, we have a solution for both – a clean energy economy not only puts people to work building green technology but then has the added benefit of saving the environment. A win-win!

The tour kicks off in New Orleans and rolls through Indianapolis, Arkansas, Missouri, and Washington, DC for a variety of events including community rallies, roundtables on college campuses, tours of clean energy job sites and musical events.

If you are in New Orleans TODAY, go check it out:

    Dillard University
    Kabacoff Plaza Cafeteria
    2601 Gentilly Boulevard
    New Orleans, LA 70112

Program participants: Reverend Lennox Yearwood Jr., Gloria Reuben, DJ Biz Markie, Dr. Beverley Wright, D Woods, LeToya Luckett and ReBirth.

    My new favorite sport

    Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Snowboard Cross! I’m a bit of an Olympics junkie – I just love the competition and seeing all these sports that aren’t in my daily life – Biathlon anyone?

Snowboard cross is just a very cool sport. I’d love to show the winning race were American Seth Wescott took gold, but NBC doesn’t let me share the online video easily – they are bad sharers. So instead, here’s a PS3 video, it’s just like the same thing:

And not only is it a fun sport to watch – you’ve got to love a sport where the athletes call each other out for going ‘emo’.

    USA!
