    Let the debate begin

    Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Saturday night, the U.S. Senate voted 60-39 to start debate on their version of the health care bill. Looks like debate will start after the Thanksgiving holiday and go for a while, maybe until Christmas or maybe longer – unclear at this point, but the bill is moving!

Here’s a look at our thoughts on the Senate bill and how it impacts young people.

    Let the games begin!

    8:00 p.m. Saturday

    Friday, November 20th, 2009

The first big test of whether health care reform legislation will make it through the Senate will come at around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday night. The Senate will consider a “motion to proceed” that will allow the health care debate to start. That’s right, the Senate needs 60 votes to say, “OK, we’ll debate the health care bill.” Assuming there are 60 votes to move forward, there will be lots more votes over the coming weeks.

This isn’t how we usually spend our Saturday nights at Rock the Vote, but this is important and most of us have already seen New Moon. We know where your Senator will be at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday . . . where will you be?
