The Texas House is gearing up for a showdown on Saturday. Lawmakers are poised to vote on S.B. 362 tomorrow.
Under this bill, Texas voters would be required to show photo ID in addition to their voting card or two other forms of identification such as a bank statement or birth certificate.
Opponents of the bill see it for what it is – an attempt to suppress turnout, especially groups that are less likely to have a driver’s license including the poor, recent immigrants and those with disabilities. The numbers are staggering:
• 18% of Americans age 65 and over do not have photo ID (Brennan Center)
• 37% of Texans over 80 do not have a driver’s license. (Conservative Coalition Research Institute)
• 25% of African Americans do not have a government issued photo ID . (Conservative Coalition Research Institute)
• Women are twice as likely to not have a driver’s license than men. (US Census)

Another idiotic rant. You clearly state the bill allows for two other forms of identification besides photo IDs to be used to establish residence and lawful citizenship, yet all of your ‘stats’ are based on photo IDs. This isn’t about suppressing voter turnout, its about validating lawful voters from fraudulent non-residents and preventing illegal immigrants from polluting legal votes.

• 25% of African Americans do not have a government issued photo ID . (Conservative Coalition Research Institute) NOTE: Again, all of these Blacks have to do is go to the DPS and they can get and picture Id (not a drivers license) and they can vote also.
• Women are twice as likely to not have a driver’s license than men.(US Census) NOTE: Even if they don’t drive they also can get and picture ID at the DPS. They can use it when casing a check or to vote.
The only reason you are against the bill is because if it were passed, it would hinder a lot of people who ARE NOT citizens from voting and the democtats need all the help they can get. Look at this last election. No one will ever know how many people voted more than once or who was not illegable to vote. Look at all of the ACORN lawsuits that have been filed against ACORN for voter fraud all across the nation including Texas. We need a drivers license with a picture on it to drive, why not a picture ID to prove who you are when it comes time to vote. This is a right that legal citizens have. Not undocumented or illegal aliens have. Pass the law and get some sanity back into Texas.

The major problem with the United States right now is the emphasis on democracy. The more uniformed people who turn out to vote the better. Democracy comes from the word Demagoguery because a democracy can quickly become totalitarian by appealing to peoples’ emotions rather than to their reason. America was created as a Constitutional Republic where laws protecting natural, inalienable rights reign supreme and no majority is allowed to vote those rights away. Socialists are looking for numbers. Just vote…or sorry…’Rock the Vote’! I don’t want a mob voting away my rights!
